Indy Car Series

This is the premier and top level American open wheel racing championship in the United States.  It has its inaugural season in 1996 and was a direct competitor to the widely popular CART when it was then known as the Indy Racing League, IRL.  The IRL merged with much older Champ Car World Series in 2008 to form the Indie Car Series which still retains the reputation as the premier open wheel racing sanctioning body in North America.

The IndyCar Series League strictly controls auto specifications to be used in the series’ open wheel racing. Specifications cover the type of Chassis to be used along with the engine manufacturers that IndyCar Series league allows competitors to use in any given season. The Chassis for IndyCar League events are currently provided by Dallara while Chevrolet and Honda cater for the competition’s engine requirements.

The IndyCar Series cars are powered by ethanol currently provided by Sunoco. Some of the IndyCar Series scheduled racing events in 2013 include the 97th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, the Chevrolet Indie Dual, the Firestone 550, the Milwaukee IndyFest, the Pocono IndyCar 400 and the Grand Prix of Baltimore amongst many others. The IndyCar Racing Events take place both on the super speedways and on the streets across the US and in Brazil and Canada. The series is currently sponsored by sportswear and high-tech golfwear retailer IZOD.
